On January 1st, 2007 the Oregon Police Department began to implement a city wide Comminty Policing Program that we are calling the Community Interaction Zones. The concept of the program is that the city is devided into 9 zones. Each officer is assigned to a zone. The officer will make personal contact with someone from each residence and business within his zone. The concept of this program is three fold. First is gets the officer out of the squad car into the community. Second it is designed to open a line of communication between the police and citizens. Citizens have an opportunity to discuss any concerns they have with the officer. Lastly it will allow citizens and police to get to know each other as we are in this fight together to keep Oregon a safe community. ~ Chief Darin DeHaan
